How are ordinary cockroaches are left to be fooled by tiny robots in their image. A first global scientific to observe at close quarters.
Repulsive to some, the cockroach is the heroine of this fascinating documentary, which chronicles the attempt by a group of French scientists, Belgium and Switzerland, under the label of the "lure" introduced in an animal group a replica of the robotic species and observe the coexistence of true and false specimens. So in the wake of tiny machines and ultraperfectionnées as we enter the dark world of the cockroach, a species known for its excellent resistance of guinea pig and privileged researchers worldwide.
It's a novel idea of Jean-Louis Deneubourg, Université Libre de Bruxelles, has been developed the prototype, dubbed "Alice" - a tribute to his mission as an explorer? - Then "InsBot," a contraction of the words "insect" and "robot".
These little marvels of technology, no bigger than a piece of juice
re, infiltrating a colony of cockroaches, having been chemically prepared with a robe of pheromones. The result looked up to cockroach, is spectacular: the machines eventually influence the collective decisions of the group, leading by example to leave the darkness to win a lighted area while fleeing cockroaches usually light.
If the success of this research is confirmed, it will achieve concrete applications on vertebrates, especially on farming. In the meantime, we remain amazed by this scientific adventure that looks like science fiction, cleverly staged at the sound of a musical thriller. An experience that does not fail to echo - distantly, anyway - the classic theme of futurism, where robots with human appearances come to supplant the case.

Abstract: The scientific project Lure, collaboration between laboratories Belgian, Swiss and French, supported by the European Community is considering creating a joint venture consisting of cockroaches and small autonomous robots nicknamed Alice first then Insbot (Insect-robot). After four years of science, the results are truly amazing: they show a group of robots can influence the behavior of an animal society.
